Who needs to complete CPD?

Anyone with a current property agent licence or registration certificate.

Am I exempt if I have completed other courses?

No. CPD is separate from other training or qualifications.

What is a CPD year?

It’s based on the initial issue date printed on your licence or registration.

When does my CPD year start?

It starts on the anniversary of your licence or registration issue date. Use the online calculator to confirm your CPD year.

If I complete CPD before my first CPD year, will it count?

No. CPD completed before your first CPD year begins does not count towards your mandatory requirements.

Are there different requirements for 1-year and 3-year licence holders?

No. All licence holders must complete two approved CPD sessions each CPD year, regardless of the duration of their licence.

What if I don’t complete CPD each year?

You may not be able to renew your licence or registration.

Can I use CPD training approved in other states and territories?

No. Only sessions listed on Queensland’s Office of Fair Trading website count.

Where can I find the approved courses?

Are there courses for all roles?

Yes. CPD covers a wide range of topics for every role.

How much do CPD sessions cost?

Costs vary. Contact CPD providers directly for details.

Can I do more training beyond CPD?

Yes, providing you meet your minimum CPD requirements.

CPD is now mandatory for all Queensland property professionals who hold one of the following licences or registrations, regardless of job, position, or role:

real estate agent
real property auctioneer
resident letting agent
holder of a registration certificate.

CPD training is designed to enhance your skills, knowledge and professionalism. It ensures you stay up to date with industry best practices and regulatory requirements. It's an important step in building trust with your clients and improving the reputation of the property industry.

CPD training is separate to other training you may have completed when applying for your licence or registration.

You must complete 2 approved CPD sessions each CPD year.

If you don't, you may not be eligible to renew your licence or registration.

Exemptions

You don't need to complete CPD training if:

your current licence or registration was first issued less than 12 months ago—you only need to start CPD 12 months after your current licence or registration was first issued
your licence was deactivated for most of your CPD year
you hold a limited real estate agent licence for affordable housing or for business letting
you represent public sector agencies or you're an official with a licence under the Property Occupations Act 2014, provided you don't hold an individual licence or registration. If you separately hold an individual licence or registration, you must complete CPD training.

You can apply for an exemption for any given year if you can't complete your CPD due to exceptional circumstances.

Exceptional circumstances are both unforeseeable and unavoidable. Failing to plan or manage your time is not considered an exceptional circumstance.

To apply, you must provide evidence of the exceptional circumstances with your application to renew or restore your licence or registration.

How to meet your CPD requirements

Learn how to navigate CPD in 4 easy steps.

1. Find your licence or registration issue date

Your licence or registration issue date is printed on your current licence or registration.

If you hold multiple licences or if you hold both a licence and a registration, use the one with the earliest issue date.

2. Check your CPD year

Your CPD year is based on the date your licence or registration was issued. This means your CPD year is specific to you. Any CPD you complete before your first CPD year starts won't count towards your mandatory requirements.

3. Choose 2 approved CPD sessions

You must complete 2 approved CPD sessions every CPD year to keep your property industry licence or registration. Some exemptions apply.

You can choose to complete either:

a Type 1 session and a Type 2 session
or
2 of the Type 1 sessions.

Contact a CPD provider directly to make enquiries or enrol in a session.

Only the approved CPD sessions listed on our website will count towards your 2 mandatory sessions. Any CPD sessions completed from other states or territories, even if approved there, won’t be accepted.

4. Keep a record

Once you complete a session, the CPD provider must supply you with proof of completion, such as a certificate or statement of attainment.

You must keep the proof-of-completion document for 5 years and produce it to us on request.
